Anthony’s Key Resort Stories

Our trip began March 16–23, 2019. We arrived at Anthony’s Key with quite a rough start. Stitches for one member of our group. Melanie was the perfect manager, checked on everyone, pleasant and just all around great. Another member who was handicapped was doted on as well. See this is our second time being at Anthony’s Key, it is just not a resort with kind people but ones who have become family. So anyone wanting to travel to a tropical place, I do recommend checking them out on the web. And finally for the youngest member of our group who was 9 was the apple of everyone’s eye, Miss Aurora was the life of the party, she met no stranger and Saul and Perry gave her a Spanish word every day to learn. By the end of the week I would say she fit right in lol. So Kudos to everyone and we will see you all again in 2 yrs.

We spent a week here last week and I cannot say enough good things about the resort. The staff and facilities are amazing. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist. We stayed in one of the over water bungalows on the island and it was heaven! The food at the restaurant was excellent as was the wait staff. We had a great dive experience even though the weather wasn’t the best. The reefs are alive with marine life and the marine park has done an excellent job reducing the invasive lion fish. Our dive master was outstanding, even to the point of taking our fins off when getting back on the boat! A first for me after many, many boat dives! I could go on and on but I believe you would have to experience it to get the full impact. We will be returning in a few months.

Some years back, my husband and I chose to share our 36th wedding anniversary with Anthony’s Key Resort. We had been certified there in 2003 and had returned more than 10 times over the years for the most restful and relaxing vacation we could think of. This particular September, the weather was exceptional and we were having the time of our lives, as usual. By Wednesday though, the visibility was lousy and the Thursday morning sky was angry. After the second dive, all guests met in the Frangipani Bar to learn that a tropical storm was brewing to the east. We were asked to pack overnight in case the wind should take a turn for the worse. The sun rose to frantic outside activity with bags being loaded up as efficiently as usual, but at double time. Management had spent a long night confirming tickets and arranging for extra staff and vehicles. Even a quick breakfast was available before we were shuttled to the airport. To the guests’ perspective, everything went as smoothly as a well-oiled machine. I know major storms infrequently strike the Bay Islands, one would think AKR had hurricane drills every month. I believe it was because of Anthony’s Key’s proactive efforts that almost every guest had a confirmed seat on an early flight. Even though the tiny airport waiting room (since beautifully upgraded) was almost unbearably crowded, we were in pretty high spirits, knowing we had a sure ride home. Many thanks to Don Julio, Samir and all the great staff that worked so tirelessly to make us all feel safe and secure in a situation that was beyond our control.
