Share Your AKR Story: Ann Raatz’s Story
We are so excited to share the first of many installments in our ongoing blog series, Share Your AKR Story! We’ve asked our guests to tell us about their time at Anthony’s Key Resort, and we were blown away by your responses. So many of you have been coming here year after year and have made visiting us a tradition in your family. That means the world to us, and we hope that you continue to come to Roatan and spend a week with us.
Ann Raatz’s AKR Story
The first submission we’d like to feature is from Ann Raatz. She shared a beautiful story of taking her first diving trip (ever!) to Roatan. Since then, she’s visited us a total of three times. We hope to see her again and again!

“Our Anthony’s Key story starts in March 2007. Both my husband and I had Scuba Diving as an interest on our Match.com profiles. Who knew now, in 2019, we would be visiting for the third year in a row.
After marrying in 2008, we always talked about diving, dreamt of our perfect paradise and started looking for scuba certification locations. We blended our families and our dream vacation took a back seat to braces, activities and just daily kid stuff.
Finally, in August 2016 we received our scuba certification. Now the “Where should we go?” question was finally on the top of our list. My husband researches everything, and I mean everything, to death. He said, “Honey, I think I’m ready to pull the trigger and book a trip to Anthony’s Key in Roatan.” After I initially didn’t believe him, I googled Roatan and started reading others experiences and I was sold!
Our first visit was in May 2017 and it was not only the perfect paradise, but staff is always kind, helpful and especially patient with us novice divers. Shout out to Nico and Will for teaching and treating me like a princess! This May will be our 3rd year in a row and I know we won’t be stopping anytime soon!”
