Junior Open Water Certification

Returning AKR campers who have completed their Jr. Scuba Diver requirements may elect to complete this program for a reduced fee of $150.

Designed for children ages 10 to 15 years old, the Jr. Open Water Diver course teaches the basic knowledge and skills needed to dive with a buddy, independent of supervision (see special requirements for 10- and 11-year olds). Certification requires approximately 31 hours of combined classroom, confined water and open water training. Upon completion, kids ages 10 and 11 may descend to no more than 40 feet accompanied by a parent, guardian or PADI professional. Children ages 12 to 14 will be qualified to dive when accompanied by any open water certified adult. Parents must complete a liability release and medical statement prior to enrollment.
